Mungkin benar apa yang dibilang tetua-tetua kita jaman dahulu. Jangan terlalu berharap akan sesuatu, kalau tidak mau dikecewakan.
Bukan, bukan, ini bukan soal ujian nasional atau pengumuman beasiswa. Tapi soal mimpi!
Kapok saya. Memohon-mohon bak katak yang ingin dikeluarkan dari tempurungnya, ceritanya saya sotoy memohon kepada Tuhan kalau saya jangan sampai memimpikan orang yang satu itu. Kenapa? Seram, soalnya. Saya tahu bahwa jika saya terus memikirkan dia, nanti saya akan terjebak dalam satu lingkaran setan yang tak jelas juntrungannya.
Tapi apa boleh buat, doa sebelum tidur sudah terlanjur saya panjatkan.
Dan berangkatlah saya ke alam mimpi.
Di mana saya bertemu... orang yang persis sama! Yang sebelum berangkat ke negeri bawah sadar ini, saya hindari habis-habisan. Lucunya lagi, di mimpi itu saya tidak membenci orang itu. Malah, sudah seperti kakak-adik yang tinggal serumah dan bermain bersama layaknya tidak terjadi apa-apa di alam nyata.
Anda mau tahu, apa yang membikin permainan mimpi ini menjadi lebih canggih lagi? Bahwasanya, orang yang saya "cumbui" sebelum tidur lewat pesan-pesan singkat sok romantis dan telepon dengan nada mendayu-dayu bak penyanyi keroncong muncul juga di mimpi tersebut!
TAPI kok dia menghindar? Sungguh-sungguh menghindar!
Dalam mimpi itu, saya menjemput dia dari bandara. (Sudah lama tak bertemu, ceritanya! Padahal di alam nyata saya bertemu hampir setiap hari, lho.) Tak tahunya, kaki sang Arjuna ini sudah pincang! Kenapa? Dia tak mau bilang di mimpi itu. Malah, begitu melihat saya, dia ambil langkah seribu. (Memangnya saya ini hantu?)

Mungkin saya perlu membuat kesimpulan:
1. Orang yang sudah hampir 2 tahun tidak bertemu, dan saya hindari mati-matian; kok malah muncul di alam bawah sadar dengan akrabnya dan penuh canda tawa?
2. Sementara kebalikannya, Arjuna Wiwaha yang setiap hari bertemu (di alam nyata) malah melihat saya bagai hantu di dalam mimpi itu.

Jadi, bagaimana? Pelajaran hari ini mengerti ya!
Berikutnya, saya harus mencoba kebalikannya. Berdoa agar orang yang saya hindari muncul dalam mimpi. Dan tidak usah SMS sok romantis ke Arjuna Wiwaha sebelum tidur!

Yup, lesson learned. Jangan terlalu banyak berharap, ndhuk!

I'm happy whenever:

I cry over a very good movie. (It's the one and only moment I can feel good and bad at the same time!) My salutation recently goes to Up, a truly great movie I could not stop wiping my tears watching it.
I have ALL DAY playing all the games I want, eating all the food I love, and doing all the things I enjoy at the most comfortable places on earth.
There is a chance, once a month or a year, to gather with every ones I love the most in this entire world.
I travel. Even it's only within my home country. But my motto is usually: the further, the better. (FYI, I never experience any home sick before. Is that strange or what?)
I suddenly found the key words for my article and then instantly turn those into beautiful paragraphs.
I make the person who gave birth to me, proud of me.
My sacrifice is finally paid off. Graduation, trophies, compliments, awards, "jaket himpunan", and so on...
I donate my abandoned possessions. Yes, those can actually be very useful to the others.
A heart-to-heart conversation over a cup of tea and a plate of comfort food shared for two in the afternoon always makes me realized how blessed life is.

spending this long weekend just simply pleasures, catching up with old friend, cousin's wedding, going to the cinema to watch Harry Potter 6, reading a friend's blog, who caught me thinking...

second, i think by purchasing local products. i found this one cute store @ Mazee FX 8th floor. they have all products from Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Jogja, Bali, you name it... you won't have to grab your wallet that deep because everything is cheap without having to sacrifice the quality itself. i bought a present from my mom and dad's anniversary in here too! here's the cutie sponge (inside is the soap, when it's *poof-all-gone* you can change the soap easily) teehee ;)

WE ARE NOT AFRAID!

nothing can stop us. not even a stupid bomb, not even a heartless terrorist who clearly out of their mind! Visit Indonesia 2009 is still on, fellows! Menteri Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata sudah menyusun rencana pemulihan pariwisata Indonesia untuk ke depannya. Menteri Kesehatan juga akan menanggung segala biaya kesehatan untuk korban pengeboman JW Marriott-Ritz Carlton kemarin.
(buat temen2 yang lagi kul/kerja di luar negri, yg kemarin bilang MALU jadi orang Indonesia terus mau ngambil warga negara sana dan ga mau balik lagi ke Indonesia, WELL gak usah balik kalo lo MALU jadi orang Indonesia! Indonesia gak butuh orang2 pengecut macam kalian!)

PS: sampai detik ini ditulis, gue sampai ga habis pikir sama apa yang ada di pikiran teroris2 tersebut. bahwa JIHAD BUKANLAH TEROR. Islam tidak pernah mengajarkan kekerasan! Wong Islam itu artinya "selamat" kok. Dan jelaslah yang namanya bunuh diri itu tidak diperkenankan dalam agama, menyia-nyiakan anugerah Tuhan yang paling utama yaitu kehidupan. nah ini pake bom bunuh diri pula. yang kena juga bukan WNA doank kali pak! saudara2mu sesama muslim, sebangsa dan setanah air juga kena dan berdarah2. padahal banyak di antara mereka hanya orang kecil, karyawan hotel, bukan tamu yang berduit, atau hanya sekuriti yang sedang bertugas, hanya tau bahwa sepulang kerja nanti dia bisa membawakan nafkah bagi anak istrinya. hanya itu.

PS2: dan walaupun Anda boleh menukarkan tiket Indonesia-MU dengan Malaysia-MU harusnya Anda maluuuuuuuu ya kalau beneran nuker. gue udah kesel banget dengan berita2 pencolongan budaya (dan waktu kegap, mereka sok bego lagi!) ini lagi pake acara 3000 kursi disediain buat penonton indo di malay! najong alaijong... gue sendiri sebagai jurnalis gaya hidup, gak pernah nulis tentang malaysia sedikit pun di ELLE, walaupun mereka lagi ngadain acara besar kek, apa kek, males tau ga! GAK selama mereka masih matenin budaya kita dengan seenak udel!

gue bener2 nggak abis pikir sama orang2 yang tega ngebom suatu gedung, bangunan publik, yang di dalamnya bisa berisi ratusan bahkan ribuan orang, hotel internasional pula (yang notabene pasti selain WNI ada juga WNA yang bermalam di situ)... sampai saat ini ditulis, update dari TV one mengatakan bahwa telah ada 17 orang yang meninggal karena ledakan 3 bom di Kuningan (tepatnya di Hotel JW Marriott dan Ritz Carlton Mega Kuningan) banyak juga orang yang luka parah terus langsung dilarikan ke UGD Medistra Hospital... kakinya hancur lebur katanya :'( *bom DIDUGA KUAT adalah bom bunuh diri karena ditemukan 2 jenazah tanpa kepala tepat di pusat lokasi kejadian* dan berita buruk ini belum berhenti sampai di situ karena ada kemungkinan MU batal datang ke Jakarta (ini bukan soal senang2 lho guys, ini kan citra bangsa Indonesia di hadapan dunia internasional) kok ya tega sih pihak yang membuat kekacauan ini, sampai memakan korban? yang bikin gue agak "curiga", dua hotel ini ya hotel yang direncanakan sebagai tempat bermalam tim MU!!! (sampai berita ini ditulis, kabarnya MU masih berada di Malaysia dan mendapat Travel Warning)... tegaaaa yang ngebom tegaaaa! huhuhuhu... sekarang MU dah resmi batal ke Indonesia! what a great way to be in mid Visit Indonesia 2009. are you happy now, terrorists?

kadang gue sampai putus asa menunggu, adakah capres dan cawapres yang mikirin seberapa besar dana pendidikan yang harusnya sampai ke rakyatnya? agar pasal "tiap-tiap warga negara berhak mendapatkan pendidikan yang layak" bukan hanya sekedar pasal. terus kadang gue juga wondering, ada ga sih pemerintah yang mikirin supaya teknologi ramah lingkungan macam hybrid car dll bisa diperingan pajaknya agar harganya lebih terjangkau oleh kantong orang banyak? terus ada ga sih yang mikirin kalo sebenernya anak2 kecil yang jualan koran ampe jam 11 malem di perempatan lalu lintas itu BUKAN HAL YANG LUMRAH? harusnya dia sedang tidur nyenyak sehabis mengerjakan PR untuk sekolah keesokan harinya, atau sedang dibacakan cerita dongeng oleh ayah-ibunya. terus capres dan cawapres sepertinya semuanya cuma mikirin pembangunan Indonesia ke depan tapi tidak ada yang menggubris tentang AMDAL atau dampak terhadap lingkungan. PANTES AJA KALIMANTAN SEKARANG GUNDUL! terus sebenernya negara kita ini adalah surganya para surfer dan penyelam lho, bukan omong kosong lagi ini... SWEAR! jadi, bisa ga sih pariwisata lebih digalakkan? tentunya dengan membangun infrastruktur yang baik di tiap daerah yang berpotensi! jangan cuma Jakarta doank yang diekspos... I was quite shocked by the news of Michael Jackson's death a couple days ago because i just wrote about him and his coming-back concerts in ELLE June '09. he was supposed to release a new album titled MJ09 and perform himself in 50 world concerts of which the tickets has already sold out. yup! it's kinda impossible to sell 1,000,000 tickets within just an hour if it's not Jacko. who could have thought that the year ('09) will be his last year? my pray as well for 7 people that committed suicide after hearing that MJ's gone. rest in peace, The King of Pop. you will always be admired. all the inspirations you sang will always be a legendary that remained in our heart.

for us who still have a precious life, don't ever take it for granted if you find yourself still can see the sunrise every morning. every second is priceless! live the best out of your day like it was your last. cherish the moment you have with family and friends. because life is actually that mysterious, baby. don't let time just passes you by without something to be thankful and remembered.

heal the world, make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race.

ELLE review

As for me, there's nothing more comforting than to read a good review from the ELLE readers. especially when they like one (or more) of my articles. here's one from the magazines junkie for ELLE Magazine Indonesia, June '09 edition.

(almost) perfect, he said. i'm so relieved that i know all my hard work is worth it.
and yes, i agreed with him that before our anniversary issue the ELLE layout was too safe and plain. (i even mentioned about it when i was interviewed by the editor-in-chief, Adeline. before she stared at me like i was fallen from another planet). but in fact, i was right in the first place!

YAAAY!!! did u see that? did u see that? he likes my article! hehehe.. it did take a long time to write 4 pages of Maia ~~Ahmad~~ Estianty.. and the photo shoot was quite difficult because she did nag a LOT.. *sigh* but again, i know that all of that was worth the pain..
and about the-new-7-wonder "magnificent of 7"? it was my idea :) no kidding, you have to believe me. but it wasn't writer's kind of thing to write (consider my salary and ability to write bloody 8 pages plus the hi-res pics!!!) so my editor was the one who made it come true ;)

alright, here i'm gonna spoil u with the lit pic from the ELLE profile...
it was taken in the bathroom of the photographer's studio, teehee ;))

last but not least, the Maia photo shoot was wrapped in one day with Tika Putri, "Queen Bee" main cast. glad he likes it as well.

yesterday was my parents' 30th anniversary. so i decided to ~~buy~~ make a greeting card for them. (that's why i never throw away the old brochures, wrapping papers, and colorful post-it). lemme show you the way of loving your family AND saving the environment. (don't worry, it's so easy even a 1st grade kid can do it).

all you need is: old brochures, scissor, unused papers (colorful ones are preferred), glue and marker!

first, cut the brochures into the size you want.

(it might be great if you do have a paper punch. you can search for it in some scrapbook store or win it in Timezone *no kidding*) with this useful stuff, you can even punch the unused space of post-it!

after that, you can stick the cute little flowers to the paper. (don't miss the fun!!!)

don't forget to leave some thoughtful message.........we're almost there..........

aaaaaand.... TAAAADAAAA!!!!!

your card is ready! the thing is, please reuse and recycle your stuffs if it's still possible!
use less paper, save the environment.
don't throw away something if it still can be useful.

Somehow I'm so glad because today, 31st of May, is the day when we celebrate the world's tobacco-free day!!! YIPPIE!!!
OK, don't put your mouth that way first. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna show you the extra benefits that you will get after you get rid of that evil sticks:

taste more flavor in food.
your breath will smell nicer.
saving more money $$$.
you can have sexual activities without feeling like having a heart attack. too many improvements to list here, but if you are a guy, some of the changes will surprise you.

working in a magazine is not as glamor as you think....
you don't get a huge closets full of branded clothes like they show you in "Devil Wears Prada" (to be frank, it's more real if we all just say "Devil Wars ~~Prada~~"
i tell you what, we LOAN the stuffs we publish at the magazine... yes, the Louis Vuitton bags, the most gorgeous ever Gucci platform shoes, yada yada yada... how r u gonna deal with that huh?
but yes, you got a hell lot of free stuffs, vouchers, gifts, invited to a fab party, press conference with a lot of yummy food and so on... but that's just it... (in this case, NO a writer does NOT invited to Paris to do a fucking Maison de Objet du Paris or whatsoever... the editor goes... there i admit)
and if someone ask me, what's working in a magazine like?
back then, when i was just in my probation period... really, it felt like heaven...
but now, yea... it's kinda hell or some sort...
you're gonna be a slave for your editor-in-chief, literally...
a ~~few~~ lot of nagging here and there... and it happens more often during deadline! how ironic...
sometimes the office is more like a battlefield, no kidding...
but somehow, i'm holding on because i know that this is what i wanna do, and yes...

i hold on.

well, i'm here to share this good news for all of you, Indonesian, (that's me as well, for sure) that The Smiling Report had their survey done with the bright result:

Smiling 2008 was 77% compared to 82% in 2007 and 87% in 2004. The highest smiling country was Indonesia with 98% and the lowest was Pakistan with 44%. The best smiling industries were Health & Beauty Care and Transport with 86% and the lowest scores were in B2B with only 52%.

Greeting 2008 and 2007 was 81% compared to 88% in 2004. The highest greeting countries were Indonesia and Hong Kong with 98% and the lowest was Morocco at 48%. The best greeting was found in Government services with 94% while B2B had 70%.

i bought this LOMOLITOS camera in ak.sa.ra bookstore @ one pacific place (they used to give 10% discount for journalists, but now not anymore *sniff*) it doesn't cost that much btw, like i said, i do it just for fun!!! it has two options, to shoot using the red flash or plain only. well, you don't even have to doubt, the answer is RED! but again, is up to you.

i'm thinking of buying a Holga though. seems like i'm getting addicted? Oh nO!

Paspor ke Belanda!

Ketika mendengar kata "Belanda", terkadang yang ada di benak bangsa Indonesia hanyalah sesuatu yang identik atau berbau-bau 'londo' (setidaknya begitu yang mbah puteri saya sering bilang), kaum penjajah atau sesuatu yang berbau-bau asing lah. Yang mana sebenarnya, Belanda ternyata jauh lebih dari sekedar itu. Hey, itu dulu banget waktu mereka pernah menjajah kita. Sudah lebih dari 4 abad yang lalu kan? Kalau tidak ada Belanda, toh rasanya kota Bandung di Jawa Barat saat ini juga tak akan se'unik' itu. Sejarah mau tak mau telah menjadi bagian yang membentuk tanah air kita menjadi seperti sekarang, salah satunya ya Belanda sebagai bagian dari sejarah masyarakat Indonesia.

Lalu, apa yang menjadikan Belanda begitu istimewa?
Belanda sendiri secara harfiah berarti "Kerajaan Tanah-Tanah Rendah" makanya mungkin sebagian kota-kotanya 'terendam' air sehingga diberi namanya tidak jauh-jauh dari kata 'dam' yang artinya bendungan, seperti Amsterdam, Rotterdam, dan lain sebagainya. Belanda juga akrab disapa "negeri kincir angin". Masih ingat kan caranya menemukan toko Holland Bakery di Jakarta? Yup, cukup dengan mencari pucuk baling-baling dari si windmill yang nangkring di atap! Demikian juga kemasan rotinya, pasti dihiasi bunga tulip di mana-mana. Pokoknya, begitu banyak ciri khas yang bisa dijadikan kata kunci yang lekat dengan imaji negara Belanda.

Mau dong ke sana?
Boleh banget! Sekarang ini, banyak pilihan budget airlines yang notabene juga memurahkan bahkan menggratiskan fuel charge, lho! Apalagi ditambah dengan kebijakan pemerintah kita soal bebas fiskal bagi pemegang resmi NPWP. Kita sebagai warga negara yang baik hati dan tidak sombong serta telah membayar pajak, nggak perlu lagi membayar fiskal udara sebesar 2,5 juta rupiah! Lumayan duitnya bisa buat jajan di sana. Buat kamu yang udah pernah ke Belanda, baik dalam rangka wisata ataupun mengunjungi kerabat, beruntunglah! Pasti sudah pernah menghirup hawa segar dan mempelajari seluk beluknya. Nah, bagi yang belum juga jangan kecil hati dulu. Kalau banyak jalan menuju ke Roma, pasti dari situ tinggal belok dikit lagi ke Belanda!

Caranya bagaimana?
Selain traveling atau backpacking, cara lain untuk angkat kaki ke negara satu itu ya dengan bersekolah ke sana atau kerja. Soal meniti karier nanti dulu ya, lebih baik kita memfokuskan diri dulu tentang ilmu, ilmu dan ilmu yang setinggi-tingginya supaya nggak salah langkah. Bagi kamu yang udah lulus SMA atau malah baru saja wisuda sarjana, rasanya memiliki banyak kans untuk berangkat melanjutkan kuliah ke sana, baik dengan biaya sendiri maupun beasiswa. Kalau saya pribadi sih lebih menyarankan beasiswa. Kenapa? Ya siapa sih yang nggak mau disekolahin gratis, di benua Eropa pula! Bisa menclok-menclok ke negara-negara tetangganya yang sama indahnya dan uniknya. Dan lagi, berangkat dengan menggunakan beasiswa (walaupun mendapatkannya pasti cukup menantang) pasti akan lebih bangga rasanya! Wuih!

Beasiswa apa saja yang ada?
Banyak sekali! Pemerintah Belanda sangat antusias menyambut mahasiswa asing yang mau datang untuk menimba ilmu di negaranya. Bahkan, khusus untuk semua program S2, telah disediakan kelas internasional! Jadi, gak perlu repot-repot atau berlama-lama belajar bahasa setempat dulu seperti di negara lainnya. Walaupun, lebih bagus lagi kalau kita bisa bahasanya jadi bisa tawar-tawaran kalo lagi belanja di pasar. Bukan begitu? (Tapi rata-rata penduduk Belanda pasti tidak sungkan berbahasa Inggris kok!) Nah, kembali ke beasiswa, saat ini Belanda menyediakan serangkaian beasiswa yang berbeda-beda menurut kriteria dan persyaratannya. Beberapa contohnya yaitu STUNED, NFP dan Huygens. Beasiswa tersebut bervariasi jenjangnya dari mulai S2 sampai S3 bahkan yang 'hanya' short term, semua ada. Segala informasi dan formulir pendaftarannya bisa diunduh dari situs NESO.

Apa saja yang mesti disiapkan?
Tentu saja persyaratan dan dokumen yang disyaratkan. Siapkan segala dokumen dengan terperinci dan jelas, insyaAllah pasti pihak panitia tak akan ragu untuk memilih kita selama kita juga memiliki kualifikasi yang baik. Nah, kalau sudah diterima (amien!), saatnya menyiapkan diri untuk berkuliah di sana. Perlu diketahui bahwa sebuah kota di Belanda populasi sepedanya bisa sama dengan populasi penduduknya, alias, setiap orang pasti punya sepedanya masing-masing! Jadi, bagi yang belum bisa naik sepeda, mendingan belajar kali ya! Hehehe... Selain itu, perlu diperhatikan juga akomodasi dan tuition fee-nya. Pelajari bagaimana beasiswa yang disediakan akan menanggung biaya kamu selama kuliah di sana. Pintar-pintarlah mengakali jarak lokasi tempat tinggal kamu dengan sekolahnya. Dan pastinya, paling tidak harus bisa memasak barang sedikit agar bisa menghemat biaya makan (di sana kayaknya gak ada warteg kayak di sini ya saudara-saudara jadi kalau makan di luar terus siap-siap bangkrut). Kalau perlu, bawalah buku masakan yang praktis dari Indonesia tercinta. Kalau kita bisa mengamankan perut dan memikirkan transportasi setiap hari, pasti yang lainnya mengikuti kok.

Tips: Yang penting, carilah koneksi alias teman-teman alias kawan-kawan yang seeeeebanyaaaaak-banyaknya! Mereka akan jadi andil yang sangat-sangat penting untuk kemajuan kamu selama di sana. Di negeri orang, tidak ada yang lebih menyenangkan daripada bertemu dengan teman senasib.

Wah ternyata menarik juga ya?
Tentu! Nah, tunggu apa lagi? Nggak ada salahnya menjajal kemampuan kita untuk mengadu otak di negeri seberang. Pastinya ini membuat kinerja pikiran kita lebih terasah, siap bersaing di dunia internasional, membuka cakrawala dunia seluas-luasnya, and, last but not least, membuat kedua orang tua kita bangga! Mari buktikan kalau kita bukan lagi bangsa yang terjajah tapi masyarakat yang beradab dengan kemampuan intelijen yang bisa berkembang menjadi luar biasa. So, tunggu apa lagi? Siapkan paspor kamu untuk berangkat ke Belanda dan selain visa, jangan lupa tempelkan 'sticker' keberanian, keyakinan dan semangat '45!

i believe everyone who knows me very well won't even think twice to admit that i'm a very very lazy person... terlebih kalo lagi kumat...

well well, let's see the symptoms here:

cannot wake up early ah! too lazy to drag my ass out of the bed.
let alone taking a bath.
the only thing that can brighten up my day is picking the clothes! of course, each day seems like somebody has robbed my wardrobe so that my options are shrunk! or is it just my feeling?
too lazy to drive. so i prefer to leave my home late with mommy.
or, take a bus instead.
too lazy to switch my computer and see the piles of tasks inside.
let alone submitting the articles. heheh.
the only thing i click on the internet daily is airlines website(s). checking on the price list. hahaha. surely it's a fun thing to do!
yada yada yada... my fingers are cursed to even type this...

but the show must go on! gonna spank myself if i complain even more. heheh.

things to do:

submit the content for ELLE June.
meeting with some clients.
attending the new restaurant launching.
download the scholarhip form.
peeking at Forever 21 until i see the sequin dress and leopard scarf. and by peeking i mean window shopping. and by seeing i mean going straight to the cashier. :P
saving my money and on-leave-days to be able to steal some getaway to Lombok or whatever.
does anyone notice in the past month that SQ was actually hold some ticket-selling to Japan back and forth for only US$400 incl. tax? unlike lousy me, my friend actually GOT THE TICKETS!
and therefore, i gotta be fast. fast. fast. AND FURIOUS!
which reminds me, i need to go to cinema to spoil my eyes with some great movies.

bukan. bukan seruan 17 agustusan. saat ini aku hanya merindu hari-hari itu. hari di mana aku hidup di atas kakiku sendiri. di negeri perantauan, bahkan di mana hujan batu turun menjadi arang. dan bukan hujan emas seperti kata orang-orang.
arang itu pun terpecah dan segera membakar diriku menjadi abu. namun asa tetap ada. dan akan selalu di sini. bersamaku.
ya, kurs itu memang gila! dan gaya mereka bicara membuatku ingin menyumbat keras-keras pita suara. tapi, sekali lagi, setidaknya aku mampu hidup sendiri.
dan hey, hujan emas itu tak ada. aku muak! jangan suapi aku lagi. cukup!
jangan. jangan salah, aku belum kenyang dan tak akan pernah kenyang. aku lapar ingin menelan kebebasan. aku pun haus akan kemandirian.
dan dahaga itu tak akan lepas sebelum aku terjun kembali ke masa-masa di mana aku merdeka.

last night i dreamed i was 3 months pregnant. unfortunately, i didn't even know who my husband was. sad? total nightmare? of course not! i just wished that i could see my husband's face in that dream! (lagi dalam tahap penasaran berat siapa sih jodoh gue...? huhuhu *supersigh*)
but at least, by a sudden i could feel a glimpse of what she felt when she found out. hehehehe.
FYI, the dreams was a total fuss. coz i went to theme park and rode the biggest roller coaster and some swinging boat like kora-kora in dunia fantasi, jakarta. didn't i suppose to throw up or what?

i do love this job, i really do! but recently a few of ugly things happened at the office. really bad i couldn't even get the words out of my mouth.

and i started thinking. maybe this was because i disobeyed what my mother used to tell me? is it because i turned my back on her?

well, i am not very superstitious as u might say. but i do believe in karma. both good and bad things that i did in the past will come after, sooner or later. and i think this one is the most horrible, terrible, miserable one. i can't barely remember either.

hari-H studiwisata, melur kecil memakai seragam putih-hijau seperti yg sudah diberitahukan sebelumnya sebelum berangkat ke sekolah...

mama menatap heran: "adek, kok kamu pake putih-ijo?"
melur kecil: "emang seragamnya inih!"
mama tetap heran: "bukannya mustinya batik ya?"

asyik! asyik! i'm super excited! after 2 years, finally i got the chance again watching this great event held in Jakarta!!! wooo-hooo!!!

the show of my hubby last nite (read: Mr.Mraz) really gave an adrenaline shot. great job with his superband. the ticket for two concerts has already been sold out since like a month ago. knocked down Matt Bianco's to the free venues.

no wonder, heheh. coz he sang like a jazz angel.

however, i feel sorry for the committee. eventough i already have the ticket, i was too lazy to even grab it out of my pocket. so i just walked my way pass the gate WITHOUT HAVING MY TICKETS CHECKED! hahah. gotcha!

next time be careful young men/women.

maybe it was sort of a lie when i once said "the word REGRET is not in my dictionary"
coz today i feel those regrets as close as my eye lid.
like it happened just yesterday!
suddenly, i regret these things once again:

why i didn't give a shot for an interview in New York.
why i left my job in Singapore where i can earn and save my money 10 times bigger.
why i didn't take journalism course to ease my career.
why sometimes i did unnecessary things just to impress people whom i don't like.
why it took me so long to realize that someone might be the one.
why i refused a job offer in Milan. *stupid*
why i bought iPod touch when they're offering an iPhone the next month. *damn*
and sooo ooon...

yes, i am just a human.
i regret things.

and yes, i know that whatever things, happened for a reason. and for all of the ugly things i did above, it better be a good one.

no, it's not just because this thing is out of my religion. but it's also tacky, ababil (ABG labil) likey, and so-last-~~year~~decade.

last but not least: my arms is always open wide for a box (or two) of yummy chocolate every day, 365-days-in-a whole-year. not just damn one day. not even close. heheh.

Dwi Yanto (22), mahasiswa Geodesi ITB, mengembuskan napas terakhir di Rumah Sakit Santo Borromeus, Minggu (8/2) pukul 10.00. Belum jelas penyebab kematiannya. Namun, sebelum dirawat, mahasiswa asal Bekasi itu mengikuti acara orientasi kemahasiswaan atau ospek.

Kepala Kepolisian Wilayah Priangan Kombes Anto Charlian, Senin (9/2), menjelaskan, Polsek Coblong langsung menghubungi Polsek Lembang begitu mengetahui Dwi meninggal. Sebab, sebelumnya Dwi ikut ospek di Gunung Batu, Pagerwangi, Lembang, Kabupaten Bandung Barat.

Hasil penyidikan sementara, kata Anton, teman-teman Dwi tidak menjelaskan tempat mereka ospek saat mengantar Dwi ke rumah sakit. Padahal, ospek ini melibatkan sedikitnya 80 mahasiswa.

Pihak RS menyimpulkan, Dwi meninggal karena sakit. Saat ini jenazah sudah dibawa ke Bekasi. "Keluarganya menolak untuk otopsi," kata Anton.

Kaderisasi IMG sekarang namanya PPAB (Proses Penerimaan Anggota Baru).
PPAB ini sudah sama sekali berbeda dengan OSPEK sebelumnya. Sudah
tidak ada lagi kontak fisik, bahkan tidak ada fisik sama sekali,
seperti push up, scout-jump, jalan jongkok, dll.

Perlu diketahui juga, (seperti yang dibahas di milis IMG), malam
sebelum pelantikan ini diselenggarakan rapat sosialisasi di IMG.
Beberapa alumni juga ikut hadir. Oleh karena bentuk kaderisasi yang
sudah berubah (terdistorsi) dan akhirnya disepakati bahwa pelatikan
PPAB 07 bisa dilaksanakan tanpa ada panggilan KAMERAD.

KIta juga menyadari bahwa jaman sudah berubah. Dan OS "Keras"
barangkali sudah tidak cocok lagi utk diterapkan. Perlu dicari konsep
kaderisasi baru. Utk itu pada pertemuan itu, disepakati juga bahwa
kedepannya IMG harus memikirkan metoda kaderisasi baru, yang sesuai
dengan jaman mereka. Konsep tersebut akan dikritisi di milis IMG.
Apabila akhirnya sudah disepakati konsep baru tersebut, IMG dapat
menggunakan lagi panggilan KAMERAD, apabila mau.

Hal tersebut dilakukan, utk membuat mahasiswa sekarang berpikir utk
menentukan sendiri konsep kaderisasi. Alumni akan membantu "share"
konsep lama OS supaya mereka pun tau esensi OS dan tau mau merubah
apa. Dengan demikian diharapkan kedepannya memang tercipta konsep
kaderisasi yang baik.

Besoknya, saya dan beberapa teman alumni hadir di acara pelantikan
PPAB IMG dengan hanya melihat-lihat dan mengamati sekalian pengen
kumpul2 dan reuni. Tidak ada intervensi dari alumni ke acara panitia.

Dari pengamatan saya dan teman2 malam itu, PPAB memang sudah tidak
keras lagi. Saya saksikan tidak ada itu yang namanya push up, sit up,
jalan jongkok, dan lain2nya. Kegiatannya mobilisasi dari pos ke pos,
baris berbaris sambilkan menyanyikan lagu.

Saya dan teman2 alumni datang pas malam, sekitar jam 10an. Disana saya
dengar Wisnu sudah dipisahkan dari teman2 nya dan ditempatkan di
kelas. Kami waktu itu lgs menuju pasukan elit (begitu istilah kami
dahulu). Sampai suatu saat datanglah panitia memberitakan wisnu sudah
ingin mundur dan panitia ingin membawa beberapa temannya utk
memotivasi. jadi akhirnya saya dan beberapa teman ikut datang juga
melihat kondisinya. Wisnu mengeluh kakinya kram dan kesemutan dan
susah utk berjalan. Akhirnya wisnu tidak bisa dimotivasi lagi, panitia
memutuskan mengevakuasi Wisnu utk dibawa pulang.

Saya kembali ke tim elit, beberapa saat kemudian kami mendengar Wisnu
dalam keadaan kritis dan dibawa ke rumah sakit. Acara pelantikan sudah
mau dimulai, kami mengikuti mobilisasi tim elit ke tempat acara akhir.
Diperjalanan, kami mendengar bahwa Alm. Wisnu sudah meninggal.

Setelah itu Ketua IMG melaporkan kejadian ini ke Pak Wed dan Pihak
Keluarga. Beberapa jam kemudian datang pak Wed dan dosen lain, pihak
keluarga, pak widyo beserta orang2 rektorat.

Dari sana, kami mendapat informasi bahwa jenazah langsung dibawa ke
bekasi dan tidak ada otopsi.

Pada PPAB 07 ini, seperti juga acara2 kaderisasi tahun-tahun
sebelumnya, panitia sudah melakukan cek kesehatan sebelum dibawa ke
lapangan. acara dilapangan didampingi tim kesehatan dari AMP (FKU
Unpad). Evakuasi Wisnu didampingi tim medis IMG dan tim medis dari
AMP.

Demikian, sedikit cerita dari saya. Kronologis lebih jelas sedang
disiapkan IMG.

sangat disayangkan memang. mengingat hasil keputusan rektorat untuk membekukan (lagi) IMG, apalagi sampai memberhentikan ketua prodi dan berencana akan meniadakan penerimaan mahasiswa baru tahun ajaran berikut:

Keputusan ITB membekukan kegiatan Ikatan Mahasiswa Geodesi (IMG), memberhentikan Kepala Program Studi Teknik Geodesi dan Geomatika ITB Widyanto Kuntjoro, serta meniadakan penerimaan mahasiswa geodesi tahun depan dinilai berlebihan.

Hal ini disampaikan alumni Geodesi dan Geomatika di ITB Arwin Lubis yang juga merupakan Ketua IMG tahun 1986. Menurut Arwin, keputusan ITB telah mengorbankan mahasiswa juga dunia pendidikan.

"Itu suatu keputusan yang yang tidak berdasar. Apa hubungannya dengan berhentinya proses pendidikan? Kenapa kita korbankan kelangsungan pendidikan?" sesal Arwin saat dihubungi detikbandung, Selasa (10/2/2009).

"Sekarang kita berbicara seperti pabrik. Kalau kita mau tata ulang, apakah kita harus berhentikan produksinya? Kalau begitu, semua akan berkarat. Rusak. Maksudnya menata, malah makin kacau," lanjutnya.

Arwin yang juga menjadi sebagai salah seorang konseptor kurikulum ospek IMG paska NKKBKK (Normalisasi Kehidupan Kampus Badan Koordinasi Kampus) pada 1978, menilai ITB terlalu sibuk dengan hal lain sampai melupakan tanggung jawabnya untuk mendidik.

"Berita belakangan ini kan ITB sibuk-sibuk dengan rencananya memberikan gelar honoris causa untuk SBY, tetapi kemudian tidak diterima. Padahal kegiatan IMG seperti ini yang sangat butuh perhatian, malah mahasiswanya dihukum," ketus Arwin.

Ditambahkan Arwin, sejak 1979 ITB selalu menyebut kegiatan mahasiswa seperti yang dilakukan IMG adalah ilegal. Namun kenyataannya kegiatan mahasiswa terus berlangsung. "Pak Widyanto justru harus mendapat apresiasi tinggi, karena dia mengerti kebutuhan mahasiswa. Harusnya ITB melihat kepentingan kegiatan tersebut. Ini malah sudah melepas tanggung jawab, menghukum orang lagi," tambahnya.

duh pak, mbok ya tolong setidaknya jangan sampai meniadakan penerimaan mahasiswa baru tho. apa gak prihatin sama pendidikan di indonesia saat ini? beberapa puluh kursi di geodesi saya yakin bisa menyokong pembangunan bangsa lho. (cieh bahasa gue). tapi bener kan?

tapi gue udah gedeg banget sama orang2 yang meremehkan kerjaan penulis di sebuah majalah! (ya kalau wartawan koran kan kayaknya kastanya lebih tinggi gitu tapi yaa sebenernya kan intinya sama aja, elo harus dapat mempertanggungjawabkan apa yang elo tulis, gitu kan?)

gila apa tu orang2... emang gue nulis kagak pake mikir??? nih yaa pertanyaan2 yang biasanya bikin ati gue panassss bak kompor disiram bensin...

nyokap: kok kayanya nulis di majalah bikin otak kamu gak berkembang ya (ketimbang kamu jadi arsitek)!?

gue: (btw asli ya kalo bukan nyokap gue, orang yang nanya kayak gini udah gue blacklist seumur hidup...) wooooooooooy!!!!! siapa bilaaaaaaaaaaang???? justru dengan menjadi penulis, otak elo gak muter2 di situ2 aja melulu soal tangga, kusen, pondasi, dll. justru gue bisa tau banyaaaaaak banget... dari mulai biografi orang2, hal2 tentang musik dan instrumennya, segala macam gadget dan moda transportasi bahkan sampe seluk beluk soal balon udara! (apalagi ditambah bahwa gue jadi penulis feature & lifestyle di ELLE, jadi bukan soal fashion ato kecantikan TOK!) *dan lagi yaa penulis beauty dan juga fashion itu gak bisa diremehin samaaaa sekali... karena di situ banyak banget HERITAGE dan CULTURE yang mempengaruhi! gak tau kan loe? makanya jangan banyak omong!

orang yang sekarang gak pernah gue ajak ngomong lagi: menurutku, orang2 di majalah itu cuman "a bunch of fake people who wants to look fashionable but in the real life don't understand what fashion is about"

*haduh capedeh* gini lho, emang dalam majalah itu, penampilan bisa jadi adalah segalanya, tapi bukan berarti elo gak ngerti apa2 tentang fashion kecuali bedandan! malah majalah ELLE banyak dipuji karena selalu nampilin inside fashion (kupas tuntas di balik sebuah rancangan dan seluk beluk perkembangan mode), dan juga designer of the month yang patut menjadi sorotan dan kenapa dia layak mendapatkan itu, dll. jadi jangan ngirain majalah itu cuman sekedar fashion spread doank!!! karena selalu ada cerita di balik itu...

orang2 bodoh pada umumnya: hah? ngapain elo jadi penulis? gak sayang ilmu arsitek loe?

ya...ya...ya... woy arsitek tuh di indonesia cuman 4 tahun lhooo... ini bukan kayak dokter atau sebangsanya walaupun di negara2 lain arsitek tuh minimal 5 taon... FYI gue selalu menghargai ilmu arsitek dan malah sedikit bersyukur background gue adalah itu... karena persis seperti penulis, arsitek itu selalu mikirin segala hal dari mulai yang besar sampai yang kecil, dari mulai hal yang jamak sampai hal yang gak akan pernah terpikir sama orang lain... dan tanggung jawabnya juga besar... seorang penulis harus bisa mempertanggungjawabkan kesahihan tulisannya seperti juga arsitek bertanggungjawab akan kekuatan bangunannya kan...?

dan lagian gini deh... background pendidikan tuh adalah BUKAN suatu hal yang menentukan mau jadi apa elo nanti... bahkan kalo seorang dokter nanti tiba2 mau jadi koki...karena itu adalah hasratnya... tolong HARGAILAH... karena menurut gue pribadi, GAK ADA yang namanya profesi yang lebih mulia daripada profesi yang lain... pilot gak lebih mulia daripada pegawai negri... dokter gak lebih mulia daripada yang lainnya... selama mereka semua ngejalanin itu dengan SEPENUH HATI... malah gue GAK akan ngehargai seorang dokter jika dia ngelakuin itu karena terpaksa (misalnya dulu kecemplung di jurusan karena dipaksa ama orang tua terus karena "sayang" jadi dilanjutin padahal sebenernya itu bukan PASSION nya dia)

yaudahlah gue udah capek, gak ada gunanya juga sih ngomel2... gue cuma mau bilang aja tolong JANGAN NGEREMEHIN seseorang cuma karena pekerjaannya yang gak sesuai sama hal yang biasanya terjadi di masyarakat (sekolah arsitek jadinya arsitek, sekolah dokter jadi dokter)... karena ada faktor lain yang mengantar seseorang menjadi seseorang, yaitu MIMPI nya... dan MIMPI itulah yang membuat seseorang terus hidup....

akhir2 ini udah mulai marak banget tuh yang namanya pesan berantai yang meminta kita untuk memboikot produk2 yang dikiranya mendukung gerakan sentimen Israel, as u know it.
pertanyaannya adalah: apakah cukup efektif? media massa sih mengatakan, jika dilakukan secara global maka akan mendatangkan impact yang diperkirakan akan cukup untuk menekan serangan yang udah menelan ratusan korban jiwa dan ribuan lainnya luka-luka itu.

gue pribadi sih tidak mempermasalahkan siapa yang Yahudi, siapa yang bukan atau hal-hal sebangsa itu lah dalam bencana ini... i mean, setiap orang baik itu Islam, Nasrani, Yahudi, atau bahkan atheis sekalipun, BERHAK UNTUK HIDUP KAN?! damn, open your eyes... itu kan hak asasi yang paling dasar toh? tapi yang gue tekankan di sini adalah, kita kayaknya ga butuh perang deh di dunia ini, gue (klise memang) cinta perdamaian... apakah itu muluk?

Kalo lagi jalan2 ke mall, ke restoran, ato cuma sekedar numpang tenar di trotoar, pasti sering donk kita ngelihat ada mbak2 / SPG / mas2 yang bagi-bagiin brosur or pamflet gitu... nah biasanya apa (reaksi) yang akan loe lakukan saat disodorkan kertas itu?

Apakah:

a) menerima, membacanya sambil jalan, terus kalo ga menarik biasanya langsung buang brosur itu ke tempat sampah (dengan konsekuensi menambah sampah ibukota yang udah segunung itu... *memang sih sampah kertas tuh bisa didaur ulang, tapi tetep lho itu semua butuh proses dan energi, jadi sebenernya REDUCE itu adalah langkah awal yang paling baik dilakukan daripada RECYCLE ataupun REUSE)

b) CUEK bebek alias melenggang kangkung (tapi ga tega juga donk kalo mba2/mas2nya jadi lama panas2an gara2 itu brosur gak abis2 hehehe gaji mereka buat makan dari hasil itu juga kan)

c) menerima, sehabis baca simpen di tas, terus sampe rumah itu kertas dibuat menjadi bentuk lain, misalnya: sampul buku, kolase, bungkus kacang, dll... (option untuk orang kreatif dan punya banyak waktu nih) hehehehe

d) baca itu brosur di tempat, terus balikin lagi (pernah baca ini di suatu majalah, katanya sih ini yang paling efisien)

e) ......... eke punya jawaban sendiri donks! (terangkan jawabanmu) hehehhehheheh.........

Rela disuruh antri, semakin panjang semakin tenang, gak menunjukkan gejala kekesalan sama sekali
Yang tadinya ngedumel saat macet, sekarang tenaaaang....
Berharap kena lampu merah berulang-ulang, kalo lampu berubah jadi ijo malah kesel. tetep nekaaad jawabin email/chatting...
Sering diklakson orang lain, sampe disaranin pasang sticker di belakang mobil: HARAP SABAR, BlackBerry User atau "BlackBerry ON BOARD" hadoooh...
Waktu ~~berak~~ BAB jadi tambah lama. Padahal isinya udah kosong tapi tetep nongkrong
Tidur miring nungguin pasangan sambil BB-an di tangan. Kejar target ngabisin baca email
Suka senyum-senyum sendiri
Gak konsen kerja
Bangun pagi yang pertama dicari BB dulu bukan orang lain, apalagi mandi....
Waktu diajak ngobrol orang tetep MAKSA jawab email/chatting. CUEK. Padahal yang ngajak ngobrol itu kadang boss-nya sendiri
Lebih seneng disupirin daripada nyetir sendiri
Rela naik busway biar gak usah nyetir
Jadi jarang marah tapi jadi sering dimarahin orang karena gak nyambung kalo diajakin ngobrol
Kalo di tempat umum suka panik nyari stop kontak. Batre sekarat. (FYI gue sendiri juga heran kalo BB low-batt kenapa sinyalnya langsung mati sih?)
Kalo anaknya rewel langsung nunjukin BB-nya buat sarana hiburan
Sering lupa mencet tombol lift. Harusnya naik malah turun. Belom lagi suka kebablasan lantainya, gak sadar kalo pintunya udah kebuka
Kalo ngantri di bank pake nomer antrian, pas dipanggil kagak denger, pas kepala liat monitor kaget: *SHIT!* harus ambil antrian ulang. tapi tetep hati tenaaaaaaaang...
Sering kejedug kalo lagi jalan karena mata (dan kepala dan seluruh tubuh) tertuju pada layar BB...

Huah, fenomenal ya device yang satu ini... LAGAK JAKARTE! everyone is using BB!!! including gw sendiri sih... tapi gak mau jadi budak yang kayak di atas itu... huh!!!

Tips: matiin segala macam messenger deh kalo loe lagi kerja! gue sendiri cuma nyalain YM n BBM kalo pas lagi nungguin orang atau bener2 lagi gak sibuk (baca: kurang kerjaan dan akhir2 ini itu juga jarang terjadi *sigh*)...

WARNING! bahaya banget kalo nyetir tapi masih baca-baca email dan chatting BB (walaupun gue sendiri kalo udah di-buzz sama si *ehem* pasti lebih milih balesin YM-nya daripada injek gas... hehehehe... kebayang gak sih betapa ributnya klakson di belakang gue... ampuuun! mudah2an BB ini dampaknya positif ya! jadi lebih banyak yang pake busway mungkin? (seperti pasal #12 di atas itu.. hihihihihi.. AMIEN!

malah bisa dibilang tahun 2008 itu adalah tahun tergilaaaaaaa buat gue...

22 January 2008: moved my ass to work in Singapore.
1 February 2008: met that someone that finally makes me see that this life makes sense at last.
February - July 2008: ngerasain yang namanya kerja di Singapore tuh bener2 SUCKS TO THE MAX, dan kalo ga ada temen2 gue, gue pasti udah sinting gila miring!!!
March 2008: my first French lesson!!! :DDDD (satu2nya yang menghibur di singapur)
10 July 2008: my first surprise party (since my birthday is always in the middle of a holiday)
13 July 2008: threw a BBQ party with the newly wed Adi-Ija, n Windy's farewell in East Coast!
14 July 2008: quit my job! (which was NOT an easy thing to do)
1-4 August 2008: weekend getaway to Batam with my bestfriend
August - October 2008: super LUntangLAntung! kehilangan banyak uang, kehilangan temen baik, kehilangan pacar selama 3,5 tahun, kehilangan pekerjaan...parahhh!!! but it's just a phase right? somewhere in life, the wheel is gonna spin back to the way it used to be, and it does work! as long as we believe, yeah! :)

aku nggak pernah ngerti, kenapa kita selalu ga nyambung ma.

tapi satu yang aku tau pasti, aku selalu sayang mama.

maka ketika aku membanggakan mama dengan prestasiku, aku sebenarnya tak perlu tatapan banggamu walaupun tak ada yang bisa menandingi itu. tapi tolong restui aku... biarkan aku meniti karirku untuk tetap bekerja di majalah ma. maaf, aku ga bisa jadi arsitek seperti impian mama.

21 Desember 2012. tepat 4 tahun dari sekarang... apakah betul akan jadi akhir peradaban umat manusia? entah di sini artinya kiamat, apocalypse, end of the day, dll... mau itu berdasarkan perhitungan kalendar Maya, fisikawan UC Berkeley, kitab kuno Cina, dkk...
ada yang bilang ini "hanya" pembaharuan generasi "saja"... di mana sebagian besar manusia akan musnah dan sisanya hidup untuk melanjutkan... (jadi kayak ice age gitu? wah wah wah andaikan saja sekocak filmya!)

hmmm kalau ditelaah lagi tanggal 21 bulan 12 tahun 2012... pas sih, hari Jum'at... (kiamat memang aturan hari Jum'at kan jatuhnya? CMIIW)
hahaha nah lho bikin merinding aja... takut? ga tau deh, mungkin bukan karena takut mati (karena cepat atau lambat toh semua pasti mati) atau karena bencana2 yang diramalkan akan terjadi (entah itu badai antariksa, planet nibiru, pergeseran kutub, dll.)

hmmm can I share something here? to be honest, my biggest fear is: I wouldn't have much time to pursue my dreamS at that time... ga mungkin udah jadi editor-in-chief heheh...huuuhuhuuu atau mungkin belum jadi seorang Ibu? yeah well... i really have no idea :'(

melihat seluruh orang yang sudah heboh membicarakan hal ini dari sekarang (sampe2 dibikin filmnya), kebayang nggak sih apalagi beberapa hari menjelang hari keramat itu dunia ini bakalan heboh bukan main? haha... mungkin ada yang langsung ngabisin duitnya keburu masih ada (jangan2 toko udah ga ada yang buka), ato nangis2 maaf2an, doa bersama (hey, doa mah harusnya tiap hari at least lima kali lho...), ato kabur ke bulan mungkin? (iyaaa banget kayak ada yang selamat kalo kiamat qubra betulan datang! hahaha mau lari ke manaaa?)...
tapi, menurut gw pribadi, kok "lucu" aja ya kalo tanggalnya predictable gitu? walaupun memang disimpulkan berdasarkan perhitungan ilmiah para ahli dari jaman kuda bertelor hingga modern dari berbagai bidang2 ilmu... hmmm...

bukan apa2... gue cuma ga tega aja mikirin gimana nasib anak gue ntar... mau makan apa? tau sendiri makan cinta doank kagak cukup hari gini... dan paling miris kalo muncul pertanyaan: mau sekolah/kuliah di mana? tau sendiri kan kalo "orang miskin gak boleh sekolah" (padahal harusnya gak begitu sih!) tapi toh kenyataannya kurang lebih begitu... pokoknya dalam hal ini gue termasuk sangat strict! apalagi gue ga mau tergantung ama suami doank (dari kecil gue selalu dididik untuk sebisa mungkin ga tergantung sama orang walaupun itu keluarga gue sendiri) anggap aja gue harus bisa sendiri dan HARUS bisa dong... :)

tapi pandangan itu lambat laun berubah, setelah baca ayat ini:

Some of you may already know that I travel around the region pretty frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Suzhou (China). I am in the airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people who have attended my seminars or have read my books.

Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather shocked. He asked, 'How come a millionaire like you is travelling economy?' My reply was, 'That's why I am a millionaire. ' He still looked pretty confused. This again confirms that greatest lie ever told about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self Made Millionaires' ). Many people have been brainwashed to think that millionaires have to wear Gucci, Hugo Boss, Rolex, and sit on first class in air travel. This is why so many people never become rich because the moment that earn more money, they think that it is only natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one.

The truth is that most self-made millionaires are frugal and only spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster. Over the last 7 years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids, etc. to support). Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of their income (if they are lucky). I refuse to buy a first class ticket or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste of money. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2-year old daughter to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice.

When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur' s Organization) a few years back (YEO is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and make over $1m a year in their own business) I discovered that those who were self-made thought like me. Many of them with net worths well over $5m, travelled economy class and some even drove Toyota's and Nissans (not Audis, Mercs, BMWs).

I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, when you did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really value money. This is precisely the reason why a family's wealth (no matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation. Thank God my rich dad (oh no! I sound like Kiyosaki) foresaw this terrible possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business.

Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while, it does not last. Material happiness never lasts, it just give you a quick fix. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life.

Instead, what make ME happy is when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast. What makes me happy is when I see by companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries. What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone's life. What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this BLOG is inspiring you. This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me.

I think the point I want to put across is that happiness must come from doing your life's work (be in teaching, building homes, designing, trading, winning tournaments etc.) and the money that comes is only a by-product. If you hate what you are doing and rely on the money you earn to make you happy by buying stuff, then I think that you are living a life of meaningless

pasti udah pada tau kalau razia dan pemusnahan anjing dan kucing liar lagi marak di indonesia. kalau di jakarta, alasannya karena populasi sudah melewati ambang batas (mencapai 200.000 ekor), sedangkan di beberapa daerah lain hewan liar tersebut memang jadi sumber wabah penyakit. (baca: rabies, hama (kutuan), dll.) ;p

sebenernya kalo masalah penyakit, itu bisa diatasi dengan vaksinasi dan sterilisasi gratis.
sedihnya, kalau mereka dibunuh dengan cara yang tidak ~~manusiawi~~ hewani, seperti dipukulin sampai mati (biasanya sih yg ini suku tertentu sudah biasa melakukannya, alasannya karena dagingnya lebih enak kalau anjingnya mati pas lagi marah) DOH people...! would u please stop thinking that shallow?

2. my bad habit since i was little is biting my nails! and when i grow up, manicure and pedicure do NOT help. i still bite them, until they bleed.. hiiiii..

GRADUATED! finally... after those tears, sweat and blood (literally, i am not exaggerating i swear) and of course we didn't forget to take a shot of this memorable moment! thank God i graduated when the technology called "camdig" is already a common thing :D

Anything you missed from last year?

my dearest friends, who already spread abroad to the entire world. i miss them so much i wish i could do my college years all over again. (oh my... did i just say that?) well, consider there is no piles of tasks. make it just the laughters. LOL.

Do you think you've changed over the year?

yeap. now i'm such a cow. i gained almost 10 kilograms! my old trousers can't barely fit towards my leg and i have to try my clothes before i buy them. (what? do you think i ever went into the fitting room when i was thin?) ah, those good ol'daaaays...

if God asked you whether you wanted to go back to where you were last year, what would you say?

i would looove to! i always always alwaysss miss my past, when everything is so much easier... but it won't change anything right? there was nothing i regret. (read: the word "regret" is NOT in my dictionary), but sometimes i just wish that i could tell them earlier how much they mean to me.
